Flooded McDonalds
2009
superfLex (bjørnstjerne reuter
christiansen, Jakob fenger and
rasmus nielsen) is a danish
artist collective whose practice is
characterised by a high level of social
engagement, and responds to a broad
range of contemporary political and
social themes including financial
markets, labour conditions, copyright
law and environmentalism.
as its title suggests,
Flooded
McDonalds
2009 portrays an
abandoned burger bar which, over the
course of 20 minutes, fills with water.
the cinematography borrows equally
from hollywood and from media
coverage of natural disasters, exploiting
viewers’ fascination with images of
catastrophe as well as the destruction
of this recognisable setting.
this work was purchased with funds
from tim fairfax,

, through the
queensland art gallery foundation.
