About the Gallery
Since its establishment in 1895, the Queensland Art Gallery has
grown into a two-site institution that encompasses the Queensland
Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art. As Queensland’s premier
visual arts institution, the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern
Art (QAGOMA) connects people and art through a dynamic program of
historical and contemporary exhibitions by Australian and international
artists. QAGOMA attracts around 1.4 million visitors each year.
The dynamic program of exhibitions is complemented by interpretive
public and education programs, publications and online resources. The
Gallery is also recognised as a leader in providing innovative interactive
learning programs for children, presented by the Children’s Art Centre,
and film programs by its Australian Cinémathèque. Exhibitions and
programs are also presented in regional Queensland.
Working closely with the Queensland Government and key corporate,
tourism and media sector partners, the Gallery continues to build a
profile as a significant cultural tourism destination in the region.
