Grace and Nell Davies

Grace Davies (1913–96) and Nell Davies (1915–2003) were two
exceptional women united by their love of art and a shared generosity
of spirit. For more than 25 years, the sisters gave art works and
donated funds to the Gallery enabling the acquisition of 22 works,
in various media.
In 1995, the Gallery presented a special exhibition titled ‘The Grace
Davies and Nell Davies Donation’, to honour the sisters’ contribution to,
and support for, the Gallery. Nell established the Grace Davies and
Nell Davies Bequest, following her sister’s passing in 1996.
The Grace Davies and Nell Davies Bequest ensures that the people of
Queensland can continue to benefit from the passion for art and culture
that was such a significant part of the lives of these very special women.
