‘douglas kirkland: a Life in pictures’
was the first major retrospective of
kirkland’s celebrated photography in
australia. in a career spanning more
than 50 years, kirkland has worked
across the field of photojournalism,
celebrity portraits and film
photography.
this exhibition brought together many
of kirkland’s best known celebrity
portraits, including images of marilyn
monroe, gabrielle ‘coco’ chanel,
audrey hepburn, brigitte bardot,
John Lennon, andy warhol and
michael Jackson.
‘douglas kirkland: a Life in pictures’ was
presented by the brisbane festival 2010, in
association with the queensland art gallery.
top: ‘a Life in pictures’ brought together more than
a 120 of douglas kirkland’s intimate observations
from his time spent working in the fashion and
entertainment industries.
