Kota Ezawa

Earth from moon

2006

Earth from the moon

recreates the iconic ‘Earthrise’ photograph

taken by Apollo 8 astronaut William Anders in 1968. The print is

part of an ongoing body of work by Kota Ezawa titled ‘The history

of photography remix’, which presents an idiosyncratic survey

of Western photo culture, and includes reworked versions of

iconic images, from the history of photography and photographic

technology. By recasting or ‘remixing’ found photographs,

Ezawa creates boldly simplified forms that aim to communicate

the essence of the original.
