Dead leaves of Tokyo

1999

Dead leaves of Tokyo

is a series of watercolour studies of leaves

picked up by the artist during a residency in Tokyo. Setting a limit

of one per day and only painting when he found a leaf he felt

was right, Carchesio maintained a relationship to a particular

place and time. For him, the leaves are not botanical illustrations

but intimate, personal meditations on life, death and the

impermanence of all things.
