Emily Jacir’s works sensitively communicate the deep sense of

loss and longing experienced by Palestinians in exile. As a United

States citizen, Jacir is able to travel internationally with relative

freedom — in particular between Israel and Palestine. In

Where

we come from

, Jacir poses a question to Palestinians living in

exile: ‘If I could do something for you, anywhere in Palestine,

what would it be?’ Using the ‘freedom of movement’ status

granted by her US passport, Jacir attempted to realise the

desires of those whose access to their own country is restricted,

documenting the results with text and photography.
