‘Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland
Architects’, featuring the work of 22 Queensland
architects, was the largest exhibition of
contemporary architecture ever shown in an
Australian art museum. The exhibition showcased
significant residential, public and institutional projects
built during the past two decades, documenting
the work of Queensland-based practices that
span several generations. ‘Place Makers’ explored
diverse design responses to our climate, changing
lifestyle patterns and population growth. It provided
a fascinating insight into historical influences on
today’s architecture and influential efforts to develop
a built environment responsive to the subtropics.
