APT8 KIDS GOES HANDS-ON AT QAGOMA THIS SUMMER

APT8 Kids, a dynamic program of hands-on and multimedia activities will animate key spaces throughout the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art this summer as a major part of ‘The 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’.

Kids APT, the Asia Pacific Triennial’s program of artworks and interactives developed for children and families by exhibiting artists, was first staged in 1999 and has been experienced onsite by over half a million young visitors.

For APT8, the Gallery’s Children’s Art Centre has worked closely with artists from over 10 different countries on a dedicated program of twelve installations, artworks and activities, and a publication for children

Tamsin Cull, the Gallery’s Head of Public Engagement, said that APT8 Kids would connect young visitors with the ideas behind the art practices of some of the region’s leading contemporary artists from countries including Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.

‘These projects will enrich the audience’s knowledge of this culturally diverse region as they explore how artists reflect their culture, beliefs and ideas through art,’ she said.

In Draw, Make, Create: APT8 Kids, the ninth book published by the Children’s Art Centre, 10 exhibiting artists and groups will share their ideas about what inspires them to make art. The artists have created a number of exciting, contemplative and playful art-making activities, with a focus on drawing, for children to complete at home or at school. RRP $14.95 and available from the QAGOMA Store and online.

Many of the activities will also be presented in adapted version for APT8 Kids on Tour, visiting over 50 regional and remote venues throughout Queensland from January to April 2016.

APT8 Kids is proudly supported by Principal Benefactor Tim Fairfax Family Foundation and Major Sponsor Santos GLNG.

Spanning over 20 years and seven exhibitions, The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art has attracted more than 2.4 million visitors since it was first staged in 1993. The Queensland Government is the Founding Supporter of the APT series.

APT8 will be held at the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art from 21 November 2015 – 10 April 2016. The free exhibition is made possible with the support of Principal Sponsor Audi Australia, and Principal Partners Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a dynamic calendar of events throughout the state, and the Australia Council for the Arts.
