‘Paperskin’ will focus on the medium of barkcloth,
a distinctive and visually breathtaking art form that has
been practised across the Pacific region for centuries.
The exhibition will show a range of works, from delicate
patterned textiles to large-scale ornate ceremonial masks.
Innovative interpretive materials and an integrated public
program will demonstrate the persistent influence of this art
form on contemporary Pacific artists.
This exhibition is a collaboration with the Museum of New Zealand,
Te Papa Tongarewa and the Queensland Museum.
