This papier mâché sculpture represents an equestrian statue of King Chulalongkorn,
the fifth king of the Chakri dynasty. King Chulalongkorn reigned from 1868 until 1910 and
continued his father's policy of reforms, particularly in the legal and administrative
domain. He remains very highly respected by his people for his virtue, public works and
benefactions. The reference to the king is made here as an example of someone who has used
their prestige for the benefit of the community. |
