500,000 VISITORS HAVE ATTENDED GOMA’S 10TH BIRTHDAY PROGRAM

This week the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) welcomed the 500,000th visitor to its 10th anniversary program headlined by the major exhibition ‘Sugar Spin: you, me, art and everything’.

QAGOMA Director Chris Saines said visitors had three weeks left to experience the magic of ‘Sugar Spin: you, me, art and everything’ which showcases GOMA’s extraordinary collection of contemporary art, as well as some major new commissions.

‘GOMA’s 10th anniversary program has delivered an outstanding, multi-faceted art experience for audiences of all ages,’ he said.

‘More than 10,000 visitors a day experienced the GOMA Turns 10 Summer festival from 18 to 22 January, and this week we celebrate the Gallery welcoming more than half a million visitors to the GOMA Turns 10 program.’

Mr Saines said the 10th anniversary had provided a chance to reflect on GOMA as a space for the expression and exchange of art and ideas.

‘We have stopped to consider how GOMA has contributed to the cultural life and profile of Queensland, and its indelible resonance with local, national and international audiences.’

‘I would like to thank all of the Gallery of Modern Art’s audiences and supporters across government, the corporate and private sector, and our extraordinarily generous benefactors. They have all believed in GOMA as a place to inspire and create wonder, and enabled us to continue presenting a rich and varied exhibition and public program,’ Mr Saines said.

Visitors still have two more weeks to enjoy the GOMA Turns 10 exhibitions – ‘Sugar Spin: you, me, art and everything’, ‘A World View: The Tim Fairfax Gift’ and ‘Lucent: Aboriginal and Pacific Works from the Collection’, on until 17 April.

Gallery visitors can then look forward to 'Marvel: Creating the Cinematic Universe', a blockbuster exhibition curated by QAGOMA and coming exclusively to the Gallery of Modern Art from 27 May to 3 September 2017.

Tickets to the Marvel exhibition and the accompanying film retrospective are on sale now through qagoma.qld.gov.au.
