the queensland art gallery
foundation raised more than $5.545
million during 2009–10, which
includes donations and bequests;
sponsorship from corporations, grant
agencies and government bodies;
membership of the chairman’s circle;
and gifted art works. during the
2009–10 financial year, 617 art works
were acquired through the foundation.
in 2010, the foundation launched
its most ambitious appeal to date,
to acquire a significant group of
banumbirr (morning star) poles and
associated feathered objects by artists
from galiwin’ku (elcho island).
the gallery received incredible
support for this appeal from win
schubert through the Josephine
ulrick and win schubert diversity
foundation; cathryn mittelheuser,
am
; margaret mittelheuser,
am
; and
gadens Lawyers. donations were
gratefully received from a large
number of foundation members,
gallery members and supporters,
ensuring that these works were
secured for the collection.
this group of banumbirr (morning
star) poles is considered the
most significant in any museum
collection worldwide, and forms
a spectacular component of the
gallery’s indigenous australian art
holdings. we thank all the people who
generously contributed to the success
of this appeal.
