Self portraits
Robinson has twice won the Art Gallery of New South Wales’s prestigious Archibald Prize with his irreverent self portraits (1987 and 1995). He pokes fun at a prize that aims to recognise important people, while simultaneously treating his own image with self-deprecating humour. The paintings often incorporate art historical references, to comic effect.
