QAGOMA’S AUSTRALIAN ART CURATOR TO TAKE UP THE REINS AT GRIFFITH ARTWORKS

Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) Acting Director, Maud Page today announced that Angela Goddard, Curator, Australian Art will leave the Gallery next month to take up the position of Director at Griffith Artworks, Griffith University.

‘It is with both pride and sadness that I announce that Angela Goddard will leave the QAGOMA curatorial team at the end of May to take up the role of Director at Griffith Artworks’ said Ms Page.

‘This is a tremendous career move for Angela, who will put her many years of experience at the Gallery to great use at the head of both the Griffith University Art Gallery and the University’s Collection.’

Angela’s achievements include the very considered curating of ‘Art, Love and Life: Ethel Carrick and E Phillips Fox’ (2011) and the acclaimed ‘Ian Fairweather: Late Works 1953–74’ (2012), as well as contributions to major exhibitions including the Contemporary Australia and APT series. Most recently, she put together the delightful ‘Sam Fullbrook: Delicate Beauty’ (2014) exhibition, and has played an integral role in bringing together ‘Robert MacPherson: The Painter’s Reach’, opening at the Gallery of Modern Art mid-2015.

QAGOMA’s recently appointed Curatorial Manager of Australian Art, Jason Smith said Angela is a highly esteemed curator and art historian.

‘Angela is deeply respected colleague whose exceptional contribution to not only the Department of Australian Art, but to the gallery as a whole, stands her in great stead for the exciting role ahead. She will be greatly missed but will continue to achieve huge success’.

‘We wish Angela all the best in this exciting move, and as we push toward closer ties with Brisbane’s tertiary sector, we look forward to continuing to work closely with her,’ said Ms Page.
