NAIDOC WEEK 2014 CELEBRATIONS

Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture at QAGOMA during NAIDOC Week with a range of free talks and tours complementing the Gallery’s exhibitions, ‘Yirrkala Drawings’ and ‘Terrain: Indigenous Australian Objects and Representations

The Gallery will also present a diverse program of children’s activities, community arts projects, and local performances with Cultural Precinct, South Bank organisations at the Musgrave Park Family Fun Day. Join us at Musgrave Park from 9.00am on Friday 11 July – free for all ages.

Join Diane Moon, Curator, Indigenous Fibre Art, as she shares historical insights into the works on display in the ‘Yirrkala Drawings’ exhibition. Bookings required.

GOMA

Bruce McLean, Curator, Indigenous Australian Art, shares insights into the Indigenous works included in ‘Harvest: Art, Food + Film’, with a particular focus on their representation of Indigenous connection to land.

At the Musgrave Park Family Fun Day children can create their own vibrant spinning collage at a dedicated activity station. The activity is part of the Children’s Art Centre exhibition ‘Jemima Wyman: Pattern Bandits’, now showing at GOMA.

Take part in a 30 minute guided tour of highlights from GOMA’s current exhibitions including ‘Terrain: Indigenous Australian Objects and Representations.

An exhibition of more than 80 vibrant crayon drawings on brown paper produced in 1946–47 by senior Aboriginal leaders and bark painters from Yirrkala in north-east Arnhem Land.

A survey of contemporary Indigenous Australian paintings and fibre works from diverse regions including Queensland, Tasmania, the Central and Western deserts, Arnhem Land and Western Australia’s Kimberley Coast.
