SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER The first Art as Exchange regional workshop for educators at the Bunya Mountains invited 15 leaders in visual art from five neighbouring regions to work with QAGOMA staff, guest artists and regional arts advocates Flying Arts Alliance. They were welcomed to the culturally significant site with a smoking ceremony and dawn walk through country by representatives from the Bunya People’s Aboriginal Corporation. Photographs: Joe Ruckli Perspectives Asia , a long-running lecture series partnership between QAGOMA’s Australian Centre of Asia Pacific Art and Griffith University’s Griffith Asia Institute, held six sessions in 2018, including a panel on the political climate in the Pacific with Professor Ciaran O’Faircheallaigh (Griffith University), Emmanuel Thuay Tjibaou (Director, Centre Culture Tjibaou), Denise Fisher (former Australian Consul-General to New Caledonia) and Anthony Regan (ANU College of Asia and the Pacific).
