The programs explored diverse aspects of the contemporary cinema of the Asia Pacific and highlighted a wide range of films, many of which had not previously screened in Australia. CONTEMPORARY MELLOW DRAMAS ‘Contemporary Mellow Dramas’ showcased the work of filmmakers from East Asia who have found international acclaim for their deft construction of intimate dramas. The 32 films in this program originated from Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The program looked at works by emerging filmmakers breaking into the world of international cinema, alongside films by veterans whose practices are well-established. NEW BOLLYWOOD: CURRENTS IN INDIAN CINEMA ‘New Bollywood: Currents in Indian Cinema’ profiled new and dynamic films arising from a cross- pollination of India’s mainstream (Bollywood), regional and independent cinemas.
