Come to the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) and see why German artist Katharina Grosse is one of the most exciting and innovative abstract painters working today.
Painting with a spray gun, Grosse works in-situ, responding to a space’s architecture and ambience by working directly on the walls, floor and ceiling. Having exhibited widely through the United States and Europe, ‘Picture Park’ is Grosse’s first solo museum exhibition in Australia.
Grosse has transformed GoMA’s long gallery into an extraordinary environment that confounds conventions of museum display and challenges our expectations of painting.
Young children will be able to discover the ideas behind Katharina’s work in ‘Picture Lab’ on both levels of the Children’s Art Centre. It features a colourful maze for the kids to explore as well as a specially made documentary, which goes behind the scenes into Katharina’s studio in Germany.
Admission is free.
The catalogue, Katharina Grosse: Picture Park, will be available from the Gallery Store in August (Large format, 48 pp.) for $39.95. To pre-order online visit the Gallery bookstore.

Modern paints — uncovering the choices
2.00pm Saturday 20 October

Many of the new paints that have appeared in the last 70 years — including those intended for household or industrial markets — are likely to have been used by artists. This talk will discuss works by artists including David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Morris Louis, Jackson Pollock, Bridget Riley and Andy Warhol in the context of artists’ choices and application of pigments, and the ongoing understanding of these materials. Presented by Dr Thomas J Learner, Head of Contemporary Art Research, Getty Conservation Institute, Los Angeles. No bookings necessary, however, seating is limited.
